2019 Tour of China 1
Tour of China I UCI 2.1
Stage 6 - Ningyuan › Jiuyi Mountain National Forest Park (131.8km - final stage)
Roy takes 2nd on General Classification and 2nd in the Points Classification!
The final stage of ‘Tour of China I’ as expected was a tough one which produced splits in the peloton and with it time gaps to shake up the GC.
Going into the final stage Roy Eefting was 4th on GC at 22 seconds from the leader, and 2nd in the Points Classification with a 6 point deficit to Marco Benfatto, but with the testing parcours the stage provided enough opportunity to try and improve on those positions.
The team worked well throughout which saw the race split under pressure with Roy, Sam and Hannes in the front group heading to the line for MPC. In the finale Roy took 6th on the stage at 4 seconds from the stage winner, which due to time gaps saw him move up to 2nd in the final General Classification at 15 seconds from overall race winner Jereon Meijers.
Despite having took an intermediate sprint within the stage to move him closer to the Points Classification leader, Roy finished two points short of winning the Points Classification and with it the blue jersey.
