2020 Tour De Taiwan

Stage 1. Taipei - Taipei 88km

Tour De Taiwan 2020 got underway today with a criterium style stage in the centre of Taipei, aggressive and fast racing is guaranteed throughout the short 10km circuit. Jono Noble made the breakaway of the day after only 10km which quickly formed into a dangerous group featuring many of the races top teams.
The breakaway held the chasing peloton at 40secs for most of the stage before Jono and two other riders formed a new leading group in the final 20km. Despite looking like Jono would fight for the victory, all the breakaway riders were absorbed back into the peloton with less than a kilometer to go.
A chaotic and technical final made for a challenging first sprint of the tour, Sam Volkers managed to sprint to a top 10 to round out a solid start to the tour for MPC. Tomorrow we fight for victory again on the only up hill finish of this years race.

Stage 2. Taoyuan - Jiaobanshan Park 119km

Stage 2 saw the peloton tackle the only uphill finish of the tour, what would be the first shake up of the GC for this years race.
With some wind through out the stage it was a stressful and anxious transition to the base of the climb. Sam Volkers managed to sprint into 8th place from a reduced peloton, 12secs behind the solo winner of the stage.
Tomorrow’s stages covers another undulating route which should see a reduced peloton sprint for the stage victory.

Stage 3. Hsinchu - Shigang 158km

Stage 3 was as hard as the profile suggested with the peloton tackling a number of challenging climbs through out the nearly 160km stage.
